Day School: The Development of the Orchestra

This fascinating day school explores the development of the orchestra through history, with a study of the instruments and ensembles, and the idea of orchestration. The sound of the acoustic instruments that make up the orchestra is compared with sample technology. The orchestra’s place in film music is used to demonstrate its immense range of colour in sound.

The course tutor, Barry Seaman, is an internationally recognised award winning composer and lecturer, currently working on a large scale opera project about the life of Mirabai. A sample of his music, performed in Canada, can be found here:
