Continuing our history themed first day at the 2015 festival, we’re delighted to welcome Truda Thurai back to Rochester.

Truda is a writer, historian and former lawyer. Having graduated from University College and King’s College London with an M.A. in medieval history, she worked for 10 years as a journalist before qualifying as a solicitor.

Whatever she did, her love of words always surfaced. Her first book was a legal textbook! When illness forced her to quit work, writing was her therapy. Set in 1950s Ceylon, her first historical novel The Devil Dancers was published in 2011. Her next project was Barley Bread and Cheese, a book of short stories inspired by Rochester Cathedral.

Truda is currently working on her second historical novel set in the British Isles in World War II. She has her own blog and writes occasional articles for Kent Life magazine. She has appeared at Folkestone Book Festival and given talks on writing historical fiction at the Canterbury Festival Umbrella and King’s College London.
