The Rochester Literature Festival is proud to present its second annual festival, Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know.
We’re delighted to be opening this year with an hilarious and heart-warming one woman show with actress Sunny Ormonde – the outrageous Lilian Bellamy from BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, the world’s longest running soap.
Enjoy poetry and story telling in the informal and chilled environment of some of Rochester High Street’s cosiest cafes.
We have decided that the site specific theatre event was not quite ready to run on the 4th October and have decided to postpone it.
In its place we will be running a Creative Retreat in the Bishop’s House and would like to invite writers, poets, artists and other creatives to join us. Bishopscourt is a wonderfully inspiring place offering all sorts of spaces to write, draw and collaborate. (No messy work though!)
A mad mix of the unusual and quirky is in order for the finale for this year’s festival.
It was Lady Caroline Lamb who gave Byron the lasting epitaph of Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know, and we know our line up for this final event will not disappoint.

We are delighted to bring comic storyteller Phil Kay to Rochester as part of his Wholly Viable Tour. The legendary comedian has appeared on QI and Russell Howard’s Good News, and been a guest at the Edinburgh Fringe for the last 25 years.

We are delighted to host notorious Australian, Trenton Oldfield, in “The Queen versus Trenton Oldfield – A Prison Diary” on Saturday, September 27th. Trenton spent six months at Her Majesty’s Pleasure, following his arrest for disrupting the 2012 Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race, in a successful protest highlighting the culture of elitism that continues to create inequalities here and abroad.

Sunny has been touring this hilarious and heart-warming one-woman show for the past eighteen months, and we are delighted to host her at the Rochester Literature Festival.
Our Bookmark’d event on Sunday, September 28th is a book fair opportunity for authors and publishers to present, share and sell their work, and for everyone else to enjoy live readings and swap old books for new. It will be open from 12noon – 4pm.
